The First Annual Vintage Caveman Oscar Predictions

2008 was a great year for movies, and is reflected in this year’s Oscar nominations. Me being the film nerd that I am I decided to take the out of my day to write down my predictions.

Best Visual Effects– “The Dark Knight”

  • I may be swayed being a Batman fanboy, but this movie strikes a great balance between the subtle and the overblown.

Best Art Direction– “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”

  • “Button” carries a bold shifting art style that makes it stand out among the competition.

Best Makeup– “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”

  • In a world filled with demons and old world gods this movie does a great job of making anything seem possible.

Best Animated Short Film– “This Way Up”

  • A beautifully silly movie that details the lengths that father and son undertakers will go to get the job done.

Best Live Action Short Film– I didn’t see any of the nominees…so..lets say “New Boy”

Best Sound Editing– “The Dark Knight”

Best Sound Mixing– “The Dark Knight”

Best Costume Design– “The Duchess”

  • Elaborate, and colorful period costumes…what more can I say?

Best Cinematography– “Slumdog Millionaire”

Best Documentary (Short Subject)– I also didn’t see any of these…My guess: “The Final Inch”

Best Film Editing– “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”

Best Original Song– “Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire”

  • An upbeat/pulse pounding song that basically personifies everything the movie is supposed to mean.

Best Original Score– “Slumdog Millionaire”

  • Traditional Indian fare saturated with many different styles from across the world. Only movie soundtrack I bought this year.

Best Documentary Feature– “Man on Wire”

  • Elegantly done. Fan favorite.

Best Adapted Screenplay– “Doubt”

  • Originally a play. Transferred mediums incredibly well.

Best Original Screenplay– “In Bruges”

  • Extremely well written movie that is only punctuated by the acting.

Best Animated Feature Film– “Wall-E”

  • Simply beautiful.

Best Supporting Actress– Viola Davis for “Doubt”

  • For an actress who had such a small role she really made a huge impact.

Best Supporting Actor– Heath Ledger for “The Dark Knight”

  • No reason needed.

Best Actress– Kate Winslet for “The Reader”

  • Powerful role. Powerful actress.

Best Actor– Mickey Rourke for “The Wrestler”

  • The best I’ve seen Rourke in awhile.

Best Director– Danny Boyle for “Slumdog Millionaire”

  • This one was a toss up, but I am a huge fan of Danny Boyle.

Best Picture– “Slumdog Millionare”

  • The only good way to describe this movie is “Best Picture”

Feel free to discuss in the comments.

  1. i love reading people’s oscar pick lists 😉

of the ones you’ve listed that i’ve actually SEEN, i comply with your opinoins.

  2. You did a decent job picking them. Only a few misses…

  3. but why did you delete your twitter? 🙂

  4. Disco- I wanted to for awhile. Twitter is just taking up too much room. Maybe I’ll motivate my lazy ass to do something constructive for a change.

  5. VCM- It was just odd because @fashionbitch deleted hers on the exact same day. I was wondering if twitter got banned in Maine! LOL

  6. Disco- She went through with it? It was her initial talking about it that finally made me decide to go through with it.
